What is FreeIX ?
FreeIX is a Internet Exchange Point (IXP) created and operated since 2000 by
Free Telecom.
It provide a physical ethernet switched infrastructure to ISPs and to Internet
related business companies to exchange IP traffic.
Why FreeIX services are free ?
FreeIX has been created to help Internet developement and traffic optimization
in France.
With no recurring charge members can easily exchange traffic and optimize
their network performances.
Can I buy Internet transit from/on FreeIX ?
No you can't, only no charged traffic is allowed on FreeiX, see usage policy here
Can I host
my router/switch inside FreeIX racks/rooms ?
No you can't, FreeIX isn't providing hosting services since all POPs are already
located in well known telco hotels in Paris (details here).
Where can
I connect to FreeIX ?
FreeIX connections are available on the following
POPs. Depending of the FreeIX POP you can use a direct cable (TH1, TH2) or connecting via a "Meet Me
Room" (CBV, AUB)
Who are
FreeIX members ?
Most members are ISPs, ASPs or Telecom operators, member list is available here
Can I sell
services to others members using FreeIX ?
No you can't sell services to other members using FreeIX.
If you're a Telecom operator you can sell your carrier services to companies that want joining FreeIX.
Who can
join FreeIX ?
Every company with a legal entity and an Internet related business is welcome on FreeIX.

How FreeIX
is technicaly working ?
FreeIX is based on Extreme Networks Blackdiamond 6808 chassis offering 128
Gbit/s Wirespeed ethernet fabric. All FreeIX POPs are linked by Gigabit Ethernet

Does
FreeIX have IPv6 or Multicast services ready ?
IPv6 and Multicast are planned for Q1 2003
